What is a roll cage trolley?
A roll cage trolley is a steel mesh cage on four castors used to move goods between the delivery vehicle, the storeroom and the shop floor without re-handling every case.
Roll cage is the everyday UK word. Roll container is the catalogue word, and roll pallet and cage trolley mean the same product. The longer explanation, with the differences between the names, is in the roll cage vs roll container section of our buying guide.

Which roll cage do I need?
Check five things before you order roll cages: the number of sides, whether the cages nest or demount, the overall size against your aisles and vehicle, the castor size and material, and the rated load in kg.
- 2 sided, 3 sided or 4 sided roll cage: open sides for bulky goods, three sides for shelf filling, four sides for secure transit.
- Aisle width: measure your narrowest aisle and door in mm.
- Castors: 125 mm (5 inch) polyurethane on our model.
- Rated load: add up the heaviest single load and choose a rating above it.
Send us your aisle width, door height and typical load on WhatsApp and we will confirm whether the LPT-RC1 fits before you commit to an order.
Warehouse roll cages and supermarket roll cages
The same roll cage does both jobs. In a warehouse or distribution centre it carries picked orders to the loading bay and travels on the tail-lift vehicle. In a supermarket or cash and carry it goes straight from the vehicle to the aisle for shelf filling.
We sell to cash and carries, wholesalers, independent retailers, food distributors and warehouses across London and the UK mainland. We are London-based and the goods are made to order at our factory partners.

Frequently asked questions
What size is a standard roll cage?
Most UK roll cages are around 710 to 720 mm wide, 800 mm deep and 1700 mm high, which suits a supermarket aisle and a tail-lift vehicle. Jumbo roll cages sit on an 800 x 1200 mm pallet footprint. The overall size of our zinc plated roll cage is confirmed in writing with your quote, so check it against your aisles and doors before ordering.
2 sided, 3 sided or 4 sided roll cage: which do I need?
Choose 2 sided for oversized goods loaded from either side, 3 sided for shelf filling with open front access, and 4 sided for secure transit of small or high-value goods. The number of sides on our launch model is confirmed with your quote. The full comparison of each type is under 2 sided, 3 sided or 4 sided in the cash and carry trolley buying guide.
Nestable or demountable roll cage: which is better?
Nestable (A-frame) roll cages slide into each other like supermarket trolleys, so empties take little floor space on the return leg. Demountable roll cages have sides that lift off and stack flat, which packs tighter for long-term storage but takes longer to strip and rebuild. Tell us how you store empties and we will confirm whether our model nests before you order.
What are roll containers used for?
Roll containers move goods from the delivery vehicle to the storeroom and on to the shop floor without re-handling every case. Supermarkets, cash and carries, food distributors and parcel sorters use them daily, and laundries and returns departments use them for bagged loads. One cage travels the whole journey on its own castors, which cuts lifting and speeds up unloading at the tail-lift.
Are heavy duty roll containers suitable for bulk handling?
Yes. A steel roll container on 125 mm castors is built for full cases and mixed pallet loads, and moving one loaded cage is far quicker than hand carrying. Keep the heaviest goods at the bottom and stay within the rated load, which we confirm in writing with your quote. Our buying guide covers the HSE advice on pushing and pulling loaded cages.
How much does a roll cage cost in the UK?
Roll cage prices vary with size, number of sides, castor specification and whether the cage nests, so compare like for like. We buy factory-direct and sell new roll cages at trade prices ex VAT to business customers. Prices are not published on this site: send the model code LPT-RC1 and your quantity on WhatsApp and we reply with a written trade price and delivery charge.
What castors are fitted to your roll cage?
Our roll cage runs on 125 mm (5 inch) polyurethane (TPU) castors. Polyurethane wears slowly on smooth concrete and polished retail floors and is the usual choice where floor marks matter. Rubber castors are quieter on rough concrete but wear faster. Castor layout and brake options are confirmed with your quote. The buying guide explains how to measure a trolley wheel.
Do you sell jumbo or security roll cages?
Not in the launch range. Our launch roll cage is one zinc plated model on 125 mm polyurethane castors, made to order at our factory partners. If you need a jumbo cage on an 800 x 1200 mm pallet footprint or a lockable security cage with a door and roof, send the specification on WhatsApp and we will tell you whether our factory partners can supply it.
